11 Winners, 1,300 Applicants: What the WIPO Global Awards Reward
“An IP strategy is worth nothing until it reaches the market — these winners made it there.”

WIPO's 2026 Global Awards recognized 11 SMEs and startups for turning IP into market-ready products, from 1,300 applications across 126 countries — from lung-tissue regeneration therapies to AI-guided crop spraying.

We read shortlists like this less for the individual winners and more for the pattern across them: every winner paired a genuinely novel invention with a deliberate IP strategy from early on.

An invention without a protection strategy is a head start anyone can copy once it's visible. A protection strategy without a product is just a filing cabinet.

The companies that actually reach the market — and stay there — treated protection and go-to-market as a single decision, not two made months apart.

If you're building something IP-heavy right now: decide your IP strategy at the same table where you're deciding your product strategy.
